invitation to the other than film exhibition in rotterdam.
the centerpiece of the 31st international filmfestival of rotterdam is the what (is) cinema? program, through which the festival attempts to redefine itself and invite debate.
other than film is an exhibition within that program, and presents the work of 24 national and international artists. in other than film the language of cinema is represented in the most varied manifestations which leave aside the actual filmprojector. some artists expand their filmmaking practice with the creation of gallery work, others use video strictly as an installation medium, others focus in their drawings, photos or paintings on parameters that also occur in the art of film. From pencil drawings to neon signs, from an aluminium rug to a miniature set and from wallpaper to a CD-rom, the visitor's gaze is directed along
a trajectory of optical discovery.
